Among forms of intoxication—such as intoxication from drink—the most harmful is intoxication from power and prosperity; one who is intoxicated by power does not return to clarity without a fall.

english translation

When the senses move among their objects without restraint, the world is afflicted—like the stars (are afflicted) by the planets.

english translation

One who is overcome by the innate group of five—the senses that by nature wear down the self—finds his adversities increasing, like the moon in the bright fortnight.

english translation

He who, without conquering himself, seeks to subdue ministers and overcome enemies—having not mastered his ministers—declines helplessly.

english translation

He who first conquers himself—as though securing his own territory—then seeks to subdue ministers and enemies; his effort to prevail is not futile.
