तव प्रसादाद्बालास्ते प्राप्ता राज्यमरिंदम । राज्ये तान्स्थापयित्वाग्रे नोपेक्षीर्विनशिष्यतः॥५-३१-६॥
“By your favor, O subduer of foes, those young men obtained a kingdom. Having first established them in their rightful rule, do not disregard them so that they come to ruin.”
english translation
सर्वमप्येतदेकस्य नालं संजय कस्यचित् । तात संहत्य जीवामो मा द्विषद्भ्यो वशं गमः॥५-३१-७॥
All of this is not sufficient for any one person alone, Sañjaya. Dear one, let us live in unity; do not fall under the control of adversaries.

तथा भीष्मं शांतनवं भारतानां पितामहम् । शिरसाभिवदेथास्त्वं मम नाम प्रकीर्तयन्॥५-३१-८॥
Likewise, bow your head to Bhīṣma Śāṃtanava, the grandsire of the Bhāratas, while announcing my name.

अभिवाद्य च वक्तव्यस्ततोऽस्माकं पितामहः । भवता शंतनोर्वंशो निमग्नः पुनरुद्धृतः॥५-३१-९॥
After saluting, you should say to our grandsire: “By you, the lineage of Śantanu—once in decline—was raised up again.”

स त्वं कुरु तथा तात स्वमतेन पितामह । यथा जीवन्ति ते पौत्राः प्रीतिमन्तः परस्परम्॥५-३१-१०॥
Therefore, revered grandsire, act according to your own judgment, so that your grandsons may live in mutual goodwill and concord.
