There in the assembly, the sūta’s son Karṇa spoke to Kṛṣṇā as she stood near the elders of her husband’s house: “Yājñasenī, you have no refuge; now enter the dwelling of the Dhārtarāṣṭras. Your husbands, defeated, are as though no longer husbands; choose another husband, O proud woman.”

english translation

That “arrow” from Karṇa—wrought of words and keen in its force—became lodged fast in the heart of Phalguna (Arjuna): dreadful, striking the vital points, as though it split the bone.

english translation

As they were preparing to put on black antelope-skins, Duḥśāsana assailed them with bitter words: “All these are ruined—impotent like sterile sesame—bound for destruction and for a long hell.”

english translation

This is what Śakuni, king of Gandhāra, said deceitfully to the Pārthas at the time of the dice game: “Nakula has been defeated—what remains to you? Gamble with Kṛṣṇā, with Yājñasenī.”

english translation

You know all this, Saṃjaya—how, in the affair of the dice, such unspeakable words were uttered, just as reported. I myself wish to go there and set right this matter that has gone awry.
