Vāsudeva said: I desire, Sañjaya, that the Pāṇḍavas not be destroyed, and that they attain prosperity and well-being. Likewise, O charioteer, I ever wish for the growth and flourishing of King Dhṛtarāṣṭra, father of many sons.
english translation
For my constant desire, Sañjaya, is this alone: to say nothing else to them but, ‘be reconciled.’ And I hear this is pleasing to the king as well; and I deem it acceptable to the Pāṇḍavas too.
english translation
Indeed, O Saṃjaya, the Pāṇḍava has displayed here a restraint exceedingly hard to achieve—while Dhṛtarāṣṭra, together with his sons, remains driven by greed. Why, then, should their quarrel not intensify in this matter?
english translation
O Saṃjaya, you know the truth of dharma as it is practiced here—both from me and from Yudhiṣṭhira. Why, then, do you speak approvingly of the former deprivation of the Pāṇḍava’s household, though he was energetic, fulfilled his own duty, and lived as prescribed?
english translation
While this established order prevails, the views of the brāhmaṇas are diverse. Some declare that attainment in the other world is won through action; others, abandoning action, declare attainment through knowledge. Yet even the learned are not satisfied by food and drink unless they truly partake of them—this is well known among brāhmaṇas.
