At the proper time they part with wealth for their friends; their friendship does not deteriorate merely through proximity. The Pārthas act appropriately and are not agents of harm; therefore, within the line of Ājamīḍha, they have no true adversary.

Except for Duryodhana—whose conduct is tainted by wrongdoing, partiality, and poor judgment—and for Karṇa, deemed still more petty, these great-souled men, unattached to inferior pleasures, generate a radiant force of moral authority and political strength.

Duryodhana, exerting his strength and thriving in comfort, imagines this to be the fruit of his own merit. Like a child, he supposes that the Pāṇḍavas’ rightful share can be taken while they still live.

For Ajātaśatru (Yudhiṣṭhira), Arjuna and Keśava stand in the foremost rank; so too Vṛkodara (Bhīma), Sātyaki, the two sons of Mādrī, and all the Sṛñjayas. It is fitting to offer him what is due, rather than proceed to a strategic engagement.

Savyasācin (Arjuna) alone, stationed upon his chariot with the Gāṇḍīva bow, could drive back the forces of the earth. Likewise Keśava—Viṣṇu himself—unassailable, the great-souled lord of the three worlds.
