Formerly, enhancing the fame and honor of the Yādavas, he struck down Śiśupāla in confrontation—Śiśupāla whose rank was upheld by all kings, with the Karūṣa ruler foremost among them.

Judging Keśava there intolerable to face—Kṛṣṇa upon a chariot yoked with Sugrīva—others fled at once, abandoning the lord of Cedi, like small animals scattering upon seeing a lion.
english translation
Whoever, as an enemy, rushed forward in haste, hoping to meet Vāsudeva in single-chariot combat—he lay there, his life ended by Kṛṣṇa, like a karṇikāra tree uprooted by the wind.
english translation
For their sake, Sañjaya, they made known to me the prowess of Keśava. Recalling the deeds of that Viṣṇu, O Gāvalgaṇa, I do not attain peace of mind.

No other enemy could ever endure those for whom the lion among the Vṛṣṇis would be the leader. My heart trembles with fear on hearing that Kṛṣṇa and (Arjuna) have come together on a single chariot.
