Then he covered me with a great shower of arrows; and I, with a shower of arrows, likewise covered him as he discharged his volleys.

संक्रुद्धो जामदग्न्यस्तु पुनरेव पतत्रिणः । प्रेषयामास मे राजन्दीप्तास्यानुरगानिव॥५-१८१-७॥
Then Jāmadagnya, angered, again launched winged missiles at me, O king, like blazing-mouthed serpents.

तानहं निशितैर्भल्लैः शतशोऽथ सहस्रशः । अच्छिदं सहसा राजन्नन्तरिक्षे पुनः पुनः॥५-१८१-८॥
Those I severed with sharp bhalla-arrows—by the hundreds and then by the thousands—swiftly, O king, again and again in midair.

ततस्त्वस्त्राणि दिव्यानि जामदग्न्यः प्रतापवान् । मयि प्रचोदयामास तान्यहं प्रत्यषेधयम्॥५-१८१-९॥
Then the mighty Jāmadagnya set celestial weapons in motion against me; I countered those deployments and nullified them.

अस्त्रैरेव महाबाहो चिकीर्षन्नधिकां क्रियाम् । ततो दिवि महान्नादः प्रादुरासीत्समन्ततः॥५-१८१-१०॥
O mighty-armed one, as he sought to undertake a further measure by weapons alone, a great roar arose in the sky on every side.
