न भयान्नाप्यनुक्रोशान्न लोभान्नार्थकाम्यया । क्षत्रधर्ममहं जह्यामिति मे व्रतमाहितम्॥५-१७८-११॥
Neither out of fear, nor out of pity, nor out of greed, nor from desire for advantage will I abandon the kṣatriya dharma; such is the vow I have undertaken.
english translation
अथ मामब्रवीद्रामः क्रोधपर्याकुलेक्षणः । न करिष्यसि चेदेतद्वाक्यं मे कुरुपुंगव॥५-१७८-१२॥
Then Rāma, his eyes wild with rage, said to me: ‘If you do not heed my command, O foremost of the Kurus .’
english translation
हनिष्यामि सहामात्यं त्वामद्येति पुनः पुनः । संरम्भादब्रवीद्रामः क्रोधपर्याकुलेक्षणः॥५-१७८-१३॥
‘I shall slay you today along with your ministers,’ he declared again and again. Rāma spoke in agitation, his gaze distorted by wrath.

तमहं गीर्भिरिष्टाभिः पुनः पुनररिंदमम् । अयाचं भृगुशार्दूलं न चैव प्रशशाम सः॥५-१७८-१४॥
I repeatedly appealed with respectful words to that subduer of foes, the tiger among the Bhṛgus; yet he did not find peace.
english translation
तमहं प्रणम्य शिरसा भूयो ब्राह्मणसत्तमम् । अब्रुवं कारणं किं तद्यत्त्वं योद्धुमिहेच्छसि॥५-१७८-१५॥
Bowing my head once more to that foremost of Brahmins, I asked: ‘What is the reason that you desire to engage in battle here?’
