Accept me, O large-eyed one—this maiden who has come of her own accord—who has had none other before, O lord of kings, and who seeks your favor.

english translation

But as she spoke in this manner, Śālva rejected the daughter of the king of Kāśī, O best of the Bharatas, like a serpent casting off its worn skin.

english translation

Thus, though petitioned by her with many kinds of statements, O blameless one, the lord of Śālva did not place trust in the maiden, O bull among the Bharatas.

english translation

Then the eldest daughter of the king of Kāśī, seized by indignation, spoke with tear-filled eyes, her voice unsteady with tears.

english translation

Rejected by you, O lord of the people, I shall depart wherever I may. May the virtuous acknowledge my course, for I have spoken the truth as it occurred.
