Because of Rāma’s curse, because of a brāhmaṇa’s pronouncement, and because he has lost crucial means, I deem him only a ‘half-chariot-warrior’. Once he meets Phalguna (Arjuna), he will not be released alive.

english translation

Sañjaya said: Then Droṇa, mighty-armed and foremost among weapon-bearers, spoke: “It is exactly as you have stated; there is nothing false in it.”

english translation

“In engagement after engagement he is seen to be over-proud and also turning away; Karṇa is compassionate and also prone to lapses—therefore, in my judgment, he is only a ‘half-chariot-warrior’ (ardha-ratha).”

english translation

After hearing this, Rādheya (Karṇa), his eyes widened with anger, addressed Bhīṣma, O king, pressing him with words as with a goad.

english translation

“Grandfather, as you please you cut me down with word-arrows—though I am without offense—always out of hostility, again and again at every step. Yet I endure all of it, indeed, for Duryodhana’s sake.”
