नाहं जीवति गाङ्गेये योत्स्ये राजन्कथंचन । हते तु भीष्मे योधास्मि सर्वैरेव महारथैः॥५-१६५-२७॥
O King, so long as Bhīṣma, the son of the Gaṅgā, lives, I will not engage in combat in any manner. But when Bhīṣma has fallen, I will fight against all the great chariot-warriors (mahārathas).
