विचित्रकवचामुक्तैः सपताकैः स्वलंकृतैः । सादिभिश्चोपसंपन्ना आसन्नयुतशो हयाः॥५-१५२-१६॥
Horses, numbering in tens of thousands, stood ready—fitted with diverse armor and tack, adorned with banners, and fully supplied with riders and all attendant gear.

सुसंग्राहाः सुसंतोषा हेमभाण्डपरिच्छदाः । अनेकशतसाहस्रास्ते च सादिवशे स्थिताः॥५-१५२-१७॥
They were well-handled and tractable, in fine condition, furnished with golden equipment and trappings; and, numbering in many hundreds of thousands, they remained under the firm control of their riders.

नानारूपविकाराश्च नानाकवचशस्त्रिणः । पदातिनो नरास्तत्र बभूवुर्हेममालिनः॥५-१५२-१८॥
There were infantrymen there of many appearances and formations, bearing varied armor and weapons; those foot-soldiers were adorned with golden garlands and ornaments.

रथस्यासन्दश गजा गजस्य दश वाजिनः । नरा दश हयस्यासन्पादरक्षाः समन्ततः॥५-१५२-१९॥
For each chariot there were ten elephants; for each elephant, ten horses; and for each horse, ten men serving as protective foot-guards on all sides.

रथस्य नागाः पञ्चाशन्नागस्यासञ्शतं हयाः । हयस्य पुरुषाः सप्त भिन्नसंधानकारिणः॥५-१५२-२०॥
For each chariot there were fifty elephants; for each elephant, a hundred horses; and for each horse, seven men assigned to specialized tasks of repair, replacement, and the rejoining of separated units.
