Yudhiṣṭhira, the royal son and high-minded one—this kingdom has come to him by justice and right. He is the protector of this Kaurava people and, indeed, a ruler of great stature.

english translation

He is steadfast in truth, consistently vigilant, grounded in the normative teachings, and well-disposed toward his kin. He is beloved of the subjects, compassionate to friends, self-controlled, and a protector of the virtuous.

english translation

Forbearance, endurance, self-restraint, and straightforwardness; a vow to truth, learning, and vigilant care; compassion for all beings and the power to govern with discipline—every royal virtue is found in Yudhiṣṭhira.

english translation

You do not act as a true royal heir: your conduct is ignoble, driven by greed, and ill-intentioned even toward your own kin. How could you, lacking discipline, seize this kingdom that by rightful succession has come to others?

english translation

Give half the kingdom, freed from delusion, together with conveyances and all requisite resources. Then the remainder of your life, along with your younger brothers, may be secure, O lord of men.
