In Yudhiṣṭhira’s forces, my concern is an equal contest with Arjuna. If I were to defeat Arjuna in the field, I would obtain the result I seek; and even if I were defeated by Savyasācin, I would still be joined with renown.

english translation

Your five sons will never be reduced to none, O illustrious lady: if I fall, they will be without Karṇa; if Arjuna falls, they will be without Arjuna; otherwise they will remain with Arjuna.

english translation

Vaiśaṃpāyana said: Hearing these words of Karṇa, Kuntī trembled from grief. Embracing her son Karṇa, who remained steady through resolve, she spoke.

english translation

So indeed it must be: the Kauravas will go toward destruction, as you say, O Karṇa; yet fate is the stronger power.

english translation

You have granted safety to four brothers, O subduer of enemies; acknowledge that pledge—an assurance of release from peril in conflict.
