All the animals move in the inauspicious leftward course for Dhārtarāṣṭra, O Keśava; and disembodied voices are heard—these are signs of reversal and defeat.

Peacocks, flower-bright birds, geese, cranes, and cātaka birds—as well as flocks of jīva and jīvaka birds—follow after the Pāṇḍavas.

english translation

Vultures, crows, herons, hawks, yātudhānas, jackals, and swarming flies follow after the Kauravas.

english translation

In the armies of Dhārtarāṣṭra there is no sound from the bherī kettledrums; but among the Pāṇḍavas, it is said, the paṭaha war-drums resound even without being struck.

english translation

Wells resound as though lowing like cows and bulls; within Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s forces this is declared a sign of impending defeat.
