Having abandoned in battle a capable and courageous leader, cowardly people, left powerless, end up serving others with every kind of desired provision and prosperity.

Whether it brings the loss of a kingdom, a harsh reversal, or even uncertainty of life—once an enemy has been insulted and provoked, prudent people act so that no remnant of the threat remains.

english translation

Regard kingship as a gateway to heaven—or even as amṛta, the nectar of immortality—and, seeing it blocked upon the single path, act like a blazing brand among foes.

english translation

Destroy the enemies in battle, O king, and uphold your own dharma. Let no prosperous foe ever behold you brought low into pitiable weakness.
