वैशंपायन उवाच । श्रुत्वा दुर्योधनो वाक्यमप्रियं कुरुसंसदि । प्रत्युवाच महाबाहुं वासुदेवं यशस्विनम्॥५-१२५-१॥
Vaiśaṃpāyana said: Having heard the unwelcome statement in the Kuru assembly, Duryodhana replied to the mighty-armed, illustrious Vāsudeva.

प्रसमीक्ष्य भवानेतद्वक्तुमर्हति केशव । मामेव हि विशेषेण विभाष्य परिगर्हसे॥५-१२५-२॥
After due consideration, you ought to speak thus, Keśava; yet, by addressing the matter, you censure me in particular.

भक्तिवादेन पार्थानामकस्मान्मधुसूदन । भवान्गर्हयते नित्यं किं समीक्ष्य बलाबलम्॥५-१२५-३॥
Out of partiality toward the Pārthas, and without cause, Madhusūdana, you continually criticize me—what have you weighed, in terms of strength and weakness?

भवान्क्षत्ता च राजा च आचार्यो वा पितामहः । मामेव परिगर्हन्ते नान्यं कंचन पार्थिवम्॥५-१२५-४॥
Whether it is you, O Kṣattā (Vidura), or the king, the teacher, or the venerable grandsire—(all of you) censure me alone, and no other ruler.

न चाहं लक्षये कंचिद्व्यभिचारमिहात्मनः । अथ सर्वे भवन्तो मां विद्विषन्ति सराजकाः॥५-१२५-५॥
And I do not perceive any deviation or misconduct in myself here; yet all of you, together with the king, seem to be hostile toward me.
