We know, O foremost of brāhmaṇas, best among divine seers, that Indrāṇī has come for refuge to your dwelling, and that you have granted her assurance of safety.

english translation

Those gods, together with the gandharvas and the ṛṣis, O greatly radiant one, seek to persuade you: let Indrāṇī be handed over to Nahuṣa.

english translation

Nahuṣa, the radiant king of the gods, is said to be superior to Indra; let this noble lady choose him as her husband—she of graceful ascent, of excellent complexion.

english translation

When this was said, the goddess, shedding tears and speaking aloud, replied—crying and distressed—to Bṛhaspati with these words.

english translation

I do not wish to accept Nahuṣa as my husband, though he is powerful. I have come to you for refuge, O brāhmaṇa; protect me from a great fear.
