[लॊमष] ततः सवज्री बलिभिर दैवतैर अभिरक्षितः आससाद ततॊ वृत्रं सथितम आवृत्य रॊदसी ॥ ३-९९-१ ॥

'Lomasa said, "Then, equipped with the Vajra and bolstered by powerful celestials, Indra approached Vritra, who occupied both the earth and the heavens."' ॥ 3-99-1 ॥

english translation

[lòmaSa] tataH savajrI balibhira daivataira abhirakSitaH AsasAda tatò vRtraM sathitama AvRtya ròdasI ॥ 3-99-1 ॥

कालकेयैर महाकायैः समन्ताद अभिर कषितम समुद्यतप्रहरणैः स शृङ्गैर इव पर्वतैः ॥ ३-९९-२ ॥

'And he was guarded on all sides by the huge-bodied Kalakeyas, their weapons raised high, resembling colossal mountains with towering peaks.' ॥ 3-99-2 ॥

english translation

kAlakeyaira mahAkAyaiH samantAda abhira kaSitama samudyatapraharaNaiH sa zRGgaira iva parvataiH ॥ 3-99-2 ॥

ततॊ युद्धं समभवद देवानां सह दानवैः मुहूर्तं भरतश्रेष्ठ लॊकत्रास करं महत ॥ ३-९९-३ ॥

'And the clash between the gods and the Danavas, O chief of the Bharatas, though brief, was exceedingly fierce, striking terror throughout the three worlds with its intensity.' ॥ 3-99-3 ॥

tatò yuddhaM samabhavada devAnAM saha dAnavaiH muhUrtaM bharatazreSTha lòkatrAsa karaM mahata ॥ 3-99-3 ॥

उद्यतप्रतिपिष्टानां खड्गानां वीरबाहुभिः आसीत सुतुमुलः शब्दः शरीरेष्व अभिपात्यताम ॥ ३-९९-४ ॥

'In the heat of those fierce encounters, the clash of swords and scimitars echoed loudly, as heroic hands skillfully raised and parried the blows.' ॥ 3-99-4 ॥

udyatapratipiSTAnAM khaDgAnAM vIrabAhubhiH AsIta sutumulaH zabdaH zarIreSva abhipAtyatAma ॥ 3-99-4 ॥

शिरॊभिः परपतद्भिश च अन्तरिक्षान महीतलम तालैर इव महीपाल वृन्ताद भरष्टैर अदृश्यत ॥ ३-९९-५ ॥

'Severed heads tumbled from the sky to the earth like ripe palmyra fruits falling from their stalks.' ॥ 3-99-5 ॥
