कुमार्यः कथिताः पुण्याः पाण्ड्येष्व एव नरर्षभ ताम्रपर्णीं तु कौन्तेय कीर्तयिष्यामि तां शृणु ।। ३-८६-११ ।।

sanskrit

'And, O best among men, there in the land of the Pandavas is the tirtha known as the Kumaris. Listen, O son of Kunti, as I now describe Tamraparni.' ।। 3-86-11 ।।

english translation

kumAryaH kathitAH puNyAH pANDyeSva eva nararSabha tAmraparNIM tu kaunteya kIrtayiSyAmi tAM zRNu || 3-86-11 ||

'In that asylum, the gods performed penances driven by the desire for salvation. In that region lies the lake of Gokarna, renowned across the three worlds.' ।। 3-86-12 ।।

yatra devaisa tapasa taptaM mahada icchadbhira Azrame gòkarNama iti vikhyAtaM tariSu lòkeSu bhArata || 3-86-12 ||

'It is abundant in cool waters, sacred, auspicious, and, O child, capable of bestowing great merit. However, this lake is exceedingly difficult to access for those with unpurified souls.' ।। 3-86-13 ।।

'Close to that tirtha lies the sacred asylum of Agastya's disciple, the mountain Devasabha, which is rich in trees, grass, fruits, and roots.' ।। 3-86-14 ।।

'There is the beautiful Vaidurya mountain, made of gems, auspicious, And also the hermitage of Agastya, abundant with roots, fruits, and water.' ।। 3-86-15 ।।

vaiDUrya parvatasa tatra zarImAna maNimayaH zivaH agastyasyAzramaza caiva bahumUlaphalòdakaH || 3-86-15 ||
