[धर्म] दक्षिणस्यां तु पुण्यानि शृणु तीर्थनि भारत विस्तरेण यथाबुद्धिकीर्त्यमानानि भारत ।। ३-८६-१ ।।

sanskrit

'Dhaumya continued, 'Listen, O Bharata, as I now share with you in detail, based on my knowledge, the sacred tirthas of the South.'' ।। 3-86-1 ।।

english translation

[dharma] dakSiNasyAM tu puNyAni zRNu tIrthani bhArata vistareNa yathAbuddhikIrtyamAnAni bhArata || 3-86-1 ||

hk transliteration

यस्याम आख्यायते पुण्या दिशि गॊदावरी नदी बह्व आरामा बहु जला तापसाचरिता शुभा ।। ३-८६-२ ।।

sanskrit

'In that region lies the sacred and auspicious Godavari River, teeming with water, surrounded by lush groves, and often visited by ascetics.' ।। 3-86-2 ।।

english translation

yasyAma AkhyAyate puNyA dizi gòdAvarI nadI bahva ArAmA bahu jalA tApasAcaritA zubhA || 3-86-2 ||

hk transliteration

वेण्णा भीम रथी चॊभे नद्यौ पापभयापहे मृगद्विजसमाकीर्णे तापसालयभूषिते ।। ३-८६-३ ।।

sanskrit

'In that direction, the Venna and Bhimarathi rivers flow, both of which are capable of dispelling sin and fear. They are abundant in birds and deer and are adorned with the dwellings of ascetics.' ।। 3-86-3 ।।

english translation

veNNA bhIma rathI còbhe nadyau pApabhayApahe mRgadvijasamAkIrNe tApasAlayabhUSite || 3-86-3 ||

hk transliteration

राजर्षेस तत्र च सरिन नृगस्य भरतर्षभ रम्यतीर्था बहु जला पयॊष्णी दविज सेविता ।। ३-८६-४ ।।

sanskrit

'In that region, O esteemed Bharata, lies the tirtha of the royal ascetic Nriga, known as the delightful Payoshni River, which is abundant in waters and frequented by Brahmanas.' ।। 3-86-4 ।।

english translation

rAjarSesa tatra ca sarina nRgasya bharatarSabha ramyatIrthA bahu jalA payòSNI davija sevitA || 3-86-4 ||

hk transliteration

अपि चात्र महायॊगी मार्कण्डेयॊ महातपाः अनुवंष्यां जगौ गाथां नृगस्य धरणी पतेः ।। ३-८६-५ ।।

sanskrit

'There, the illustrious Markandeya, renowned for his high ascetic merit, sang verses in praise of the lineage of King Nriga!' ।। 3-86-5 ।।

english translation

api cAtra mahAyògI mArkaNDeyò mahAtapAH anuvaMSyAM jagau gAthAM nRgasya dharaNI pateH || 3-86-5 ||
