पाञ्चालेषु च कौरव्य कथयन्त्य उत्पलावतम विश्वा मित्रॊ ऽयजद यत्र शक्रेण सह कौशिकः यत्रानुवंशं भगवाञ जामदग्न्यस तथा जगौ ।। ३-८५-११ ।।

sanskrit

'In Panchala, O Kaurava, they speak of Utpalavata, Where Vishwamitra, the Kaushika, performed a sacrifice with Indra. Where the venerable Jamadagni's son (Parashurama) recited the lineage.' ।। 3-85-11 ।।

english translation

pAJcAleSu ca kauravya kathayantya utpalAvatama vizvA mitrò 'yajada yatra zakreNa saha kauzikaH yatrAnuvaMzaM bhagavAJa jAmadagnyasa tathA jagau || 3-85-11 ||

विश्वामित्रस्य तां दृष्ट्वा विभूतिम अतिमानुषीम कन्य कुब्जे ऽपिबत सॊमम इन्द्रेण सह कौशिकः ततः कषत्राद अपाक्रामद बराह्मणॊ ऽसमीति चाब्रवीत ।। ३-८५-१२ ।।

sanskrit

'There, witnessing the relics of Vishvamitra’s extraordinary power, Rama, the son of Jamadagni, extolled the praises of his ancestry. In Kamyaka, the son of Kusika partook of the Soma juice with Indra. Then, forsaking the Kshatriya order, he proclaimed, 'I am a Brahmana.'' ।। 3-85-12 ।।

vizvAmitrasya tAM dRSTvA vibhUtima atimAnuSIma kanya kubje 'pibata sòmama indreNa saha kauzikaH tataH kaSatrAda apAkrAmada barAhmaNò 'samIti cAbravIta || 3-85-12 ||

'In that region, O hero, lies the sacred confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna, renowned throughout the world.' ।। 3-85-13 ।।

'This tirtha, holy and capable of dispelling sin, is highly esteemed by the Rishis. It is here that the Grandsire, the soul of all things, performed his sacrifice in ancient times, which is why this place is known as Prayaga, O chief of the Bharata race.' ।। 3-85-14 ।।

yatrAyajata bhUtAtmA pUrvama eva pitA mahaH parayAgama iti vikhyAtaM tasmAda bharatasattama || 3-85-14 ||

'There also flows the great tirtha called Hiranyavinda, situated on the Kalanjara hills, alongside the sacred and beautiful mountain Agastya, which is revered and auspicious.' ।। 3-85-15 ।।
