दुःखम एतादृशं पराप्तॊ नलः परपुरंजयः देवनेन नरश्रेष्ठ सभार्यॊ भरतर्षभ ॥ ३-७८-६ ॥
'For, O foremost of men, it was in this manner that Nala, the conqueror of hostile cities, fell into distress along with his wife, all due to the misfortunes brought on by the game of dice, O bull among the Bharatas.' ॥ 3-78-6 ॥
english translation
एकाकिनैव सुमहन नलेन पृथिवीपते दुःखम आसादितं घॊरं पराप्तश चाभ्युदयः पुनः ॥ ३-७८-७ ॥
'And, O lord of the earth, while Nala endured such dire misery all alone and regained his prosperity.' ॥ 3-78-7 ॥
english translation
तवं पुनर भरातृसहितः कृष्णया चैव पाण्डव रमसे ऽसमिन महारण्ये धर्मम एवानुचिन्तयन ॥ ३-७८-८ ॥
'O son of Pandu, with your heart steadfast in virtue, are reveling in joy in this great forest, accompanied by your brothers and Krishna.' ॥ 3-78-8 ॥

बराह्मणैश च महाभागैर वेदवेदाङ्गपारगैः नित्यम अन्वास्यसे राजंस तत्र का परिदेवना ॥ ३-७८-९ ॥
'O monarch, when you daily associate with blessed Brahmanas well-versed in the Vedas and their branches, you have little reason for sorrow.' ॥ 3-78-9 ॥

इतिहासम इमं चापि कलिनाशनम उच्यते शक्यम आश्वासितुं शरुत्वा तवद्विधेन विशां पते ॥ ३-७८-१० ॥
'This tale, recounting the Naga Karkotaka, Damayanti, Nala, and the royal sage Rituparna, serves to vanquish all that is malevolent. O you of enduring glory, this narrative, which dispels the influence of Kali, has the power to bring solace to noble souls like you when they hear it.' ॥ 3-78-10 ॥
