परासादस्थाश च शिखिनः शालास्थाश चैव वारणाः हयाश च शुश्रुवुस तत्र रथघॊषं महीपतेः ।। ३-७१-६ ।।

'And the peacocks perched on the terraces, along with the elephants in their stables and the horses, all heard the resounding clatter of Rituparna's chariot.' ।। 3-71-6 ।।

english translation

parAsAdasthAza ca zikhinaH zAlAsthAza caiva vAraNAH hayAza ca zuzruvusa tatra rathaghòSaM mahIpateH || 3-71-6 ||

ते शरुत्वा रथनिर्घॊषं वारणाः शिखिनस तथा परणेदुर उन्मुखा राजन मेघॊदयम इवेक्ष्य ह ।। ३-७१-७ ।।

sanskrit

'Upon hearing the sound, which resembled the roar of the clouds, the elephants and peacocks, O king, began to trumpet and call out joyfully, facing the direction of the chariot. Their delight was akin to that which they experience when they hear the true rumble of the clouds.' ।। 3-71-7 ।।

te zarutvA rathanirghòSaM vAraNAH zikhinasa tathA paraNedura unmukhA rAjana meghòdayama ivekSya ha || 3-71-7 ||

'Damayanti said, "The rattle of the car, which fills the entire earth and brings joy to my heart, can only belong to King Nala."' ।। 3-71-8 ।।

damayantya uvAca yathAsau rathanirghòSaH pUrayanna iva medinIma mama halAdayate cetò nala eSa mahIpatiH || 3-71-8 ||

'If I do not behold Nala, whose face shines like the moon and who is a hero endowed with countless virtues, I shall surely perish.' ।। 3-71-9 ।।

adya candrAbhavaktraM taM na pazyAmi nalaM yadi asaMkhyeyaguNaM vIraM vinaziSyAmya asaMzayama || 3-71-9 ||
