यथेष्टं तवं गृहाणेदम अक्षाणां हृदयं परम निक्षेपॊ मे ऽशवहृदयं तवयि तिष्ठतु बाहुक एवम उक्त्वा ददौ विद्याम ऋतुपर्णॊ नलाय वै ॥ ३-७०-२६ ॥
'"As you requested, receive this knowledge of dice from me, and, O Vahuka, let my expertise in horse lore remain with you in trust." Saying this, Rituparna imparted the desired knowledge to Nala.' ॥ 3-70-26 ॥

तस्याक्षहृदयज्ञस्य शरीरान निःसृतः कलिः कर्कॊटकविषं तीक्ष्णं मुखात सततम उद्वमन ॥ ३-७०-२७ ॥
'Saying this, Rituparna imparted the desired knowledge to Nala. Upon mastering the art of dice, Nala felt Kali depart from his body, continuously spewing forth the virulent poison of Karkotaka from his mouth.' ॥ 3-70-27 ॥

कलेस तस्य तदार्तस्य शापाग्निः स विनिःसृतः स तेन कर्शितॊ राजा दीर्घकालम अनात्मवान ॥ ३-७०-२८ ॥
'From that anguished Kali, the fire of curse emerged. By that, the king was tormented for a long time, losing himself.' ॥ 3-70-28 ॥

ततॊ विषविमुक्तात्मा सवरूपम अकरॊत कलिः तं शप्तुम ऐच्छत कुपितॊ निषधाधिपतिर नलः ॥ ३-७०-२९ ॥
'Then, Kali, freed from the poison, took his own form. The enraged king of Nishada, Nala, wished to curse him.' ॥ 3-70-29 ॥

तम उवाच कलिर भीतॊ वेपमानः कृताञ्जलिः कॊपं संयच्छ नृपते कीर्तिं दास्यामि ते पराम ॥ ३-७०-३० ॥
'As Nala, the ruler of the Nishadhas, prepared to curse Kali in his wrath, the latter, trembling and fearful, spoke with folded hands, "O king, I implore you to temper your anger!"' ॥ 3-70-30 ॥
