अब्रवीद ऋतुपर्णस तं सान्त्वयन कुरुनन्दन तवम एव यन्ता नान्यॊ ऽसति पृथिव्याम अपि बाहुक ॥ ३-७०-१६ ॥

'"The path is straightforward and level." Thus, to comfort Vahuka, Rituparna reassured him, saying, "O Vahuka, you alone are the charioteer; there is no one else in this world like you."' ॥ 3-70-16 ॥

abravIda RtuparNasa taM sAntvayana kurunandana tavama eva yantA nAnyò 'sati pRthivyAma api bAhuka ॥ 3-70-16 ॥

तवत्कृते यातुम इच्छामि विदर्भान हयकॊविद शरणं तवां परपन्नॊ ऽसमि न विघ्नं कर्तुम अर्हसि ॥ ३-७०-१७ ॥

'And, O expert in the science of horses, it is with your assistance that I hope to reach the Vidarbhas. I entrust myself to you; it is not fitting for you to create any obstacles.' ॥ 3-70-17 ॥

tavatkRte yAtuma icchAmi vidarbhAna hayakòvida zaraNaM tavAM parapannò 'sami na vighnaM kartuma arhasi ॥ 3-70-17 ॥

कामं च ते करिष्यामि यन मां वक्ष्यसि बाहुक विदर्भान यदि यात्वाद्य सूर्यं दर्शयितासि मे ॥ ३-७०-१८ ॥

'O Vahuka, whatever you desire, I shall grant it. If you take me to the land of the Vidarbhas today and enable me to see the sunrise, I will fulfill your wish.' ॥ 3-70-18 ॥

kAmaM ca te kariSyAmi yana mAM vakSyasi bAhuka vidarbhAna yadi yAtvAdya sUryaM darzayitAsi me ॥ 3-70-18 ॥

अथाब्रवीद बाहुकस तं संख्यायेमं बिभीतकम ततॊ विदर्भान यास्यामि कुरुष्वेदं वचॊ मम ॥ ३-७०-१९ ॥

'In response, Vahuka said, "Once I have counted the leaves and fruits of the Vibhitaka, I will set out for Vidarbha. Please agree to my words."' ॥ 3-70-19 ॥

athAbravIda bAhukasa taM saMkhyAyemaM bibhItakama tatò vidarbhAna yAsyAmi kuruSvedaM vacò mama ॥ 3-70-19 ॥

अकाम इव तं राजा गणयस्वेत्य उवाच ह सॊ ऽवतीर्य रथात तूर्णं शातयाम आस तं दरुमम ॥ ३-७०-२० ॥

'Then the king, with some reluctance, urged him, "Count them. By counting the leaves and fruits on this branch, you will find confirmation of my claim."' ॥ 3-70-20 ॥
