बृहदश्व उवाच स नदीः पर्वतांश चैव वनानि च सरांसि च अचिरेणातिचक्राम खेचरः खे चरन्न इव ॥ ३-७०-१ ॥
'Vrihadaswa remarked, "Just as a bird glides effortlessly through the sky, Nala swiftly traversed rivers, mountains, forests, and lakes."' ॥ 3-70-1 ॥
english translation
तथा परयाते तु रथे तदा भाङ्गस्वरिर नृपः उत्तरीयम अथापश्यद भरष्टं परपुरंजयः ॥ ३-७०-२ ॥
'While the chariot was in motion, that valiant conqueror of hostile towns, the royal son of Bhangasura, noticed his upper garment fall to the ground.' ॥ 3-70-2 ॥
english translation
ततः स तवरमाणस तु पटे निपतिते तदा गरहीष्यामीति तं राजा नलम आह महामनाः ॥ ३-७०-३ ॥
'As soon as his garment fell, the high-minded monarch promptly said to Nala, "I shall recover it without delay."' ॥ 3-70-3 ॥
english translation
निगृह्णीष्व महाबुद्धे हयान एतान महाजवान वार्ष्णेयॊ यावद एतं मे पटम आनयताम इति ॥ ३-७०-४ ॥
'O wise one, hold these exceptionally swift steeds until Varshneya returns with my garment.' ॥ 3-70-4 ॥
english translation
नलस तं परत्युवाचाथ दूरे भरष्टः पटस तव यॊजनं समतिक्रान्तॊ न स शक्यस तवया पुनः ॥ ३-७०-५ ॥
'Nala replied, "The garment has fallen far behind; we have covered a distance of one yojana from that point. Thus, it cannot be retrieved."' ॥ 3-70-5 ॥
