एवम उक्तस तु कलिना पुष्करॊ नलम अभ्ययात कलिश चैव वृषॊ भूत्वा गवां पुष्करम अभ्ययात ॥ ३-५६-६ ॥
'Thus urged by Kali, Pushkara went to Nala. Dvapara, meanwhile, took the form of the principal die known as Vrisha and approached Pushkara.' ॥ 3-56-6 ॥
english translation
आसाद्य तु नलं वीरं पुष्करः परवीरहा दीव्यावेत्य अब्रवीद भराता वृषेणेति मुहुर मुहुः ॥ ३-५६-७ ॥
'Approaching the valiant Nala, the slayer of enemy heroes, Pushkara repeatedly said, 'Let us play together with dice.'' ॥ 3-56-7 ॥
english translation
न चक्षमे ततॊ राजा समाह्वानं महामनाः वैदर्भ्याः परेक्षमाणायाः पणकालम अमन्यत ॥ ३-५६-८ ॥
'Then the high-minded king could not endure the challenge, And, while Vidarbha's princess looked on, he considered it time to cast the dice.' ॥ 3-56-8 ॥

हिरण्यस्य सुवर्णस्य यानयुग्यस्य वाससाम आविष्टः कलिना दयूते जीयते सम नलस तदा ॥ ३-५६-९ ॥
'Under Kali's influence, Nala began to lose his stakes in gold, silver, chariots with their steeds, and fine garments during the game.' ॥ 3-56-9 ॥

तम अक्षमदसंमत्तं सुहृदां न तु कश चन निवारणे ऽभवच छक्तॊ दीव्यमानम अचेतसम ॥ ३-५६-१० ॥
'Driven to madness by the game, none of his friends could dissuade that conqueror of foes from continuing to play.' ॥ 3-56-10 ॥
