बृहदश्व उवाच एवं स समयं कृत्वा दवापरेण कलिः सह आजगाम ततस तत्र यत्र राजा स नैषधः ॥ ३-५६-१ ॥

'Vrihadaswa said, 'Having forged this alliance with Dvapara, Kali arrived at the place where the king of the Nishadhas resided.'' ॥ 3-56-1 ॥

english translation

स नित्यम अन्तरप्रेक्षी निषधेष्व अवसच चिरम अथास्य दवादशे वर्षे ददर्श कलिर अन्तरम ॥ ३-५६-२ ॥

'And continuously on the lookout for an opportunity, he dwelled in the land of the Nishadhas for a long time. It was in the twelfth year that Kali finally discovered a way in.' ॥ 3-56-2 ॥

english translation

कृत्वा मूत्रम उपस्पृश्य संध्याम आस्ते सम नैषधः अकृत्वा पादयॊः शौचं तत्रैनं कलिर आविशत ॥ ३-५६-३ ॥

'After answering the call of nature, Naishadha touched water and offered his twilight prayers without first washing his feet. It was through this omission that Kali was able to enter him.' ॥ 3-56-3 ॥

english translation

स समाविश्य तु नलं समीपं पुष्करस्य ह गत्वा पुष्करम आहेदम एहि दीव्य नलेन वै ॥ ३-५६-४ ॥

'Having taken possession of Nala, he approached Pushkara and said, 'Come, let us play dice with Nala.'' ॥ 3-56-4 ॥

english translation

अक्षद्यूते नलं जेता भवान हि सहितॊ मया निषधान परतिपद्यस्व जित्वा राजन नलं नृपम ॥ ३-५६-५ ॥

'With my assistance, you will surely win the game. Defeat King Nala and, by acquiring his kingdom, reign over the Nishadhas.' ॥ 3-56-5 ॥
