तान समीक्ष्य ततः सर्वान निर्विशेषाकृतीन सथितान संदेशाद अथ वैधर्भी नाभ्यजानान नलं नृपम यं यं हि ददृशे तेषां तं तं मेने नलं नृपम ॥ ३-५४-११ ॥

'And beholding them seated there, all without distinction in form, doubt clouded her mind, and she could not determine which among them was King Nala.' ॥ 3-54-11 ॥

english translation

tAna samIkSya tataH sarvAna nirvizeSAkRtIna sathitAna saMdezAda atha vaidharbhI nAbhyajAnAna nalaM nRpama yaM yaM hi dadRze teSAM taM taM mene nalaM nRpama ॥ 3-54-11 ॥

सा चिन्तयन्ती बुद्ध्याथ तर्कयाम आस भामिनी कथं नु देवाञ जानीयां कथं विद्यां नलं नृपम ॥ ३-५४-१२ ॥

'And whoever she looked at, she believed him to be the king of the Nishadhas. Filled with anxiety, the beautiful maiden thought, 'How shall I distinguish the gods, and how can I recognize the true King Nala?'' ॥ 3-54-12 ॥

sA cintayantI buddhyAtha tarkayAma Asa bhAminI kathaM nu devAJa jAnIyAM kathaM vidyAM nalaM nRpama ॥ 3-54-12 ॥

एवं संचिन्तयन्ती सा वैदर्भी भृशदुःखिता शरुतानि देवलिङ्गानि चिन्तयाम आस भारत ॥ ३-५४-१३ ॥

'And filled with sorrow, the daughter of Vidarbha reflected deeply. O Bharata, recalling the divine marks of the celestials she had heard of, she mused within herself.' ॥ 3-54-13 ॥

evaM saMcintayantI sA vaidarbhI bhRzaduHkhitA zarutAni devaliGgAni cintayAma Asa bhArata ॥ 3-54-13 ॥

देवानां यानि लिङ्गानि सथविरेभ्यः शरुतानि मे तानीह तिष्ठतां भूमाव एकस्यापि न लक्षये ॥ ३-५४-१४ ॥

'The divine attributes I have learned about from the elders do not belong to any of the deities present here on earth.' ॥ 3-54-14 ॥

'After long contemplation and repeated reflection, she resolved to seek the protection of the gods themselves.' ॥ 3-54-15 ॥
