बृहदश्व उवाच तेभ्यः परतिज्ञाय नलः करिष्य इति भारत अथैनान परिपप्रच्छ कृताञ्जलिर अवस्थितः ॥ ३-५२-१ ॥
'Vrihadaswa continued, "O Bharata, Nala gave his word to the celestials, saying, 'I will do it.' Then, with folded hands, he respectfully approached them and asked further."' ॥ 3-52-1 ॥
english translation
के वै भवन्तः कश चासौ यस्याहं दूत ईप्सितः किं च तत्र मया कार्यं कथयध्वं यथातथम ॥ ३-५२-२ ॥
'Who are you, and who is it that seeks me as a messenger? What task must I perform for you? Speak to me clearly and truthfully.' ॥ 3-52-2 ॥
english translation
एवम उक्ते नैषधेन मघवान परत्यभाषत अमरान वै निबॊधास्मान दमयन्त्यर्थम आगतान ॥ ३-५२-३ ॥
'When the king of the Nishadhas spoke these words, Maghavat replied, 'Know that we are the immortals, come here for the sake of Damayanti.'' ॥ 3-52-3 ॥
english translation
अहम इन्द्रॊ ऽयम अग्निश च तथैवायम अपां पतिः शरीरान्तकरॊ नॄणां यमॊ ऽयम अपि पार्थिव ॥ ३-५२-४ ॥
'I am Indra, this is Agni, and this is the Lord of Waters. And this, O king, is Yama, the destroyer of mortal bodies.' ॥ 3-52-4 ॥
english translation
स वै तवम आगतान अस्मान दमयन्त्यै निवेदय लॊकपालाः सहेन्द्रास तवां समायान्ति दिदृक्षवः ॥ ३-५२-५ ॥
'Go and inform Damayanti of our arrival, saying, 'The guardians of the world, including the mighty Indra and the others, have come, eager to behold the Swayamvara.' ॥ 3-52-5 ॥
