पराप्तुम इच्छन्ति देवास तवां शक्रॊ ऽगनिर वरुणॊ यमः तेषाम अन्यतमं देवं पतित्वे वरयस्व ह ॥ ३-५२-६ ॥
'The gods—Sakra, Agni, Varuna, and Yama—wish to claim you. Therefore, choose one of them to be your lord.' ॥ 3-52-6 ॥
english translation
एवम उक्तः स शक्रेण नलः पराञ्जलिर अब्रवीत एकार्थसमवेतं मां न परेषयितुम अर्हथ ॥ ३-५२-७ ॥
'Thus addressed by Sakra, Nala replied with joined hands, 'I have come here for the very same purpose. It is not fitting for you to send me on this errand.'' ॥ 3-52-7 ॥

देवा ऊचुः करिष्य इति संश्रुत्य पूर्वम अस्मासु नैषध न करिष्यसि कस्मात तवं वरज नैषध माचिरम ॥ ३-५२-८ ॥
'The gods replied, "O ruler of the Nishadhas, you promised first, saying, 'I will!' Why do you hesitate to act now? Tell us this without delay."' ॥ 3-52-8 ॥

बृहदश्व उवाच एवम उक्तः स देवैस तैर नैषधः पुनर अब्रवीत सुरक्षितानि वेश्मानि परवेष्टुं कथम उत्सहे ॥ ३-५२-९ ॥
'Vrihadaswa continued, 'Thus addressed by the celestial beings, the ruler of the Nishadhas spoke again, saying, 'Those mansions are well-guarded.'' ॥ 3-52-9 ॥

परवेक्ष्यसीति तं शक्रः पुनर एवाभ्यभाषत जगाम स तथेत्य उक्त्वा दमयन्त्या निवेशनम ॥ ३-५२-१० ॥
'How can I hope to enter them?' Indra replied, 'You shall indeed be able to enter.' And, saying 'So be it,' Nala then proceeded to the palace of Damayanti."' ॥ 3-52-10 ॥
