तयॊर अदृष्टकामॊ ऽभूच छृण्वतॊः सततं गुणान अन्यॊन्यं परति कौन्तेय स वयवर्धत हृच्छयः ॥ ३-५०-१६ ॥
'Repeatedly hearing of each other's virtues, they developed a bond not born of sight. This attachment, O son of Kunti, began to strengthen with each passing moment.' ॥ 3-50-16 ॥

अशक्नुवन नलः कामं तदा धारयितुं हृदा अन्तःपुरसमीपस्थे वन आस्ते रहॊगतः ॥ ३-५०-१७ ॥
'And then Nala found himself unable to contain the love in his heart. He began to spend much of his time in solitude in the gardens adjacent to the inner apartments of his palace.' ॥ 3-50-17 ॥

स ददर्श तदा हंसाञ जातरूपपरिच्छदान वने विचरतां तेषाम एकं जग्राह पक्षिणम ॥ ३-५०-१८ ॥
'There he beheld a flock of swans adorned with golden wings, wandering through the woods. From among them, he caught one in his hands.' ॥ 3-50-18 ॥

ततॊ ऽनतरिक्षगॊ वाचं वयाजहार तदा नलम न हन्तव्यॊ ऽसमि ते राजन करिष्यामि हि ते परियम ॥ ३-५०-१९ ॥
'Thereupon, the celestial being said to Nala, 'I do not deserve to be slain by you, O King. I will do something that pleases you.'' ॥ 3-50-19 ॥

दमयन्तीसकाशे तवां कथयिष्यामि नैषध यथा तवदन्यं पुरुषं न सा मंस्यति कर्हि चित ॥ ३-५०-२० ॥
'O king of the Nishadhas, I will speak of you before Damayanti in such a way that she will never desire another as her lord.' ॥ 3-50-20 ॥
