[भि] संधिं कृत्वैव कालेन अन्तकेन पतत्रिणा अनन्तेनाप्रमेयेन सरॊतसा सर्वहारिणा ॥ ३-३६-१ ॥
'Bhima said, "O king, you are as insubstantial as froth, unstable like a ripened fruit ready to fall, subject to time and mortality. How can you rely on this agreement, bound by time which is infinite and immeasurable, swift like an arrow, and flowing like a river, sweeping away everything like death itself?"' ॥ 3-36-1 ॥
english translation
परत्यक्षं मन्यसे कालं मर्त्यः सन कालबन्धनः फेनधर्मा महाराज फलधर्मा तथैव च ॥ ३-३६-२ ॥
'Time seems perceptible to you, O mortal, bound by time. O great king, it is of the nature of foam, and likewise of the nature of fruit.' ॥ 3-36-2 ॥
english translation
निमेषाद अपि कौन्तेय यस्यायुर अपचीयते सूच्येवाञ्जन चूर्णस्य किम इति परतिपालयेत ॥ ३-३६-३ ॥
'How can one, O son of Kunti, wait patiently, knowing that life diminishes with every passing moment—like collyrium that lessens each time a needle lifts even the smallest grain of it?' ॥ 3-36-3 ॥
english translation
यॊ नूनम अमितायुः सयाद अथ वापि परमाणवित स कालं वै परतीक्षेत सर्वप्रत्यक्षदर्शिवान ॥ ३-३६-४ ॥
'He alone whose life is boundless, or who knows with certainty the exact span of his existence, and who perceives the future as clearly as the present, can truly wait for the arrival of an appointed time.' ॥ 3-36-4 ॥
english translation
परतीक्षमाणान कालॊ नः समा राजंस तरयॊ दश आयुषॊ ऽपचयं कृत्वा मरणायॊपनेष्यति ॥ ३-३६-५ ॥
'If we wait, O king, for thirteen years, that time, steadily diminishing our lifespan, will only bring us closer to death.' ॥ 3-36-5 ॥
