सत्त्वेन कुरुते युद्धं राजन सुबलवान अपि न परमाणेन नॊत्साहात सत्त्वस्थॊ भव पाण्डव ।। ३-३४-६१ ।।

sanskrit

'Strong warriors, O monarch, rely on their own strength in battle, not on numbers or intelligence gathered through spies. Therefore, O son of Pandu, harness your full might.' ।। 3-34-61 ।।

english translation

sattvena kurute yuddhaM rAjana subalavAna api na paramANena nòtsAhAta sattvasthò bhava pANDava || 3-34-61 ||

hk transliteration

सत्त्वं हि मूलम अर्थस्य वितथं यद अयॊ ऽनयथा न तु परसक्तं भवति वृक्षच छायेव हैमनी ।। ३-३४-६२ ।।

sanskrit

'Might is the true root of wealth; any other claim to its root is illusory. Just as the shade of a tree is of no use in winter, so without might, everything else proves fruitless.' ।। 3-34-62 ।।

english translation

sattvaM hi mUlama arthasya vitathaM yada ayò 'nayathA na tu parasaktaM bhavati vRkSaca chAyeva haimanI || 3-34-62 ||

hk transliteration

अर्थत्यागॊ हि कार्यः सयाद अर्थं शरेयांसम इच्छता बीजौपम्येन कौन्तेय मा ते भूद अत्र संशयः ।। ३-३४-६३ ।।

sanskrit

'Wealth should be expended by one who wishes to grow it, just as seeds are scattered on the ground to yield a harvest. Let there be no doubt about this, O son of Kunti.' ।। 3-34-63 ।।

english translation

arthatyAgò hi kAryaH sayAda arthaM zareyAMsama icchatA bIjaupamyena kaunteya mA te bhUda atra saMzayaH || 3-34-63 ||

hk transliteration

अर्थेन तु समॊ ऽनर्थॊ यत्र लभ्येत नॊदयः न तत्र विपणः कार्यः खरकण्डूयितं हि तत ।। ३-३४-६४ ।।

sanskrit

'When wealth that is equal to or greater than what is sought cannot be obtained, there should be no expenditure of wealth. Investing it would be like an ass scratching itself: initially pleasurable, but ultimately painful.' ।। 3-34-64 ।।

english translation

arthena tu samò 'narthò yatra labhyeta nòdayaH na tatra vipaNaH kAryaH kharakaNDUyitaM hi tata || 3-34-64 ||

hk transliteration

एवम एव मनुष्येन्द्र धर्मं तयक्त्वाल्पकं नरः बृहन्तं धर्मम आप्नॊति स बुद्ध इति निश्चितः ।। ३-३४-६५ ।।

sanskrit

'Thus, O king of men, one who discards a small portion of virtue, like scattering seeds, to gain a greater measure of virtue, is regarded as wise.' ।। 3-34-65 ।।

english translation

evama eva manuSyendra dharmaM tayaktvAlpakaM naraH bRhantaM dharmama Apnòti sa buddha iti nizcitaH || 3-34-65 ||
