उत्थानम अभिजानन्ति सर्वभूतानि भारत परत्यक्षं फलम अश्नन्ति कर्मणां लॊकसाक्षिकम ।। ३-३३-६ ।।

sanskrit

'Among mobile creatures, humans alone strive to shape their destiny in this world and the next through their actions. Driven by the influences of their past lives, all beings visibly reap the fruits of their deeds in this world.' ।। 3-33-6 ।।

english translation

utthAnama abhijAnanti sarvabhUtAni bhArata paratyakSaM phalama aznanti karmaNAM lòkasAkSikama || 3-33-6 ||

पश्यामि सवं समुत्थानम उपजीवन्ति जन्तवः अपि धाता विधाता च यथायम उदके बकः ।। ३-३३-७ ।।

sanskrit

'Indeed, all creatures live according to the influences of their past lives, much like the crane that dwells in the water, guided by natural instincts rather than teachings from others, including the Creator and Ordainer of the universe.' ।। 3-33-7 ।।

english translation

pazyAmi savaM samutthAnama upajIvanti jantavaH api dhAtA vidhAtA ca yathAyama udake bakaH || 3-33-7 ||

सवकर्म कुरु मा गलासीः कर्मणा भव दंशितः कृत्यं हि यॊ ऽभिजानाति सहस्रे नास्ति सॊ ऽसति वा ।। ३-३३-८ ।।

sanskrit

'You too should act, to avoid censure from neglecting your duties. Protect yourself with the armor of action. Indeed, there may be only one in a thousand who truly understands the value of work.' ।। 3-33-8 ।।

english translation

savakarma kuru mA galAsIH karmaNA bhava daMzitaH kRtyaM hi yò 'bhijAnAti sahasre nAsti sò 'sati vA || 3-33-8 ||

तस्य चापि भवेत कार्यं विवृद्धौ रक्षणे तथा भक्ष्यमाणॊ हय अनावापः कषीयते हिमवान अपि ।। ३-३३-९ ।।

sanskrit

'One must act both to protect and to increase one's wealth. For if one continues to spend without seeking to earn, even a fortune as vast as the Himalayas will soon be depleted. Indeed, if no action were taken, all creatures in the world would face extinction.' ।। 3-33-9 ।।

tasya cApi bhaveta kAryaM vivRddhau rakSaNe tathA bhakSyamANò haya anAvApaH kaSIyate himavAna api || 3-33-9 ||

उत्सीदेरन परजाः सर्वा न कुर्युः कर्म चेद यदि अपि चाप्य अफलं कर्म पश्यामः कुर्वतॊ जनान नान्यथा हय अभिजानन्ति वृत्तिं लॊके कथं चन ।। ३-३३-१० ।।

sanskrit

'If actions bore no fruits, creatures would never have multiplied. It is evident that beings sometimes perform actions that seem to yield no immediate results, for without action, the very course of life would be impossible.' ।। 3-33-10 ।।

english translation

utsIderana parajAH sarvA na kuryuH karma ceda yadi api cApya aphalaM karma pazyAmaH kurvatò janAna nAnyathA haya abhijAnanti vRttiM lòke kathaM cana || 3-33-10 ||
