यश च दिष्ट परॊ लॊके यश चायं हठ वादकः उभाव अपसदाव एतौ कर्म बुद्धिः परशस्यते ॥ ३-३३-११ ॥
'Those who believe only in fate or chance are among the most misguided of men. Only those who recognize the efficacy of actions are to be praised.' ॥ 3-33-11 ॥
english translation
यॊ हि दिष्टम उपासीनॊ निर्विचेष्टः सुखं सवपेत अवसीदेत सुदुर्बुद्धिर आमॊ घट इवाम्भसि ॥ ३-३३-१२ ॥
'One who lies idle, believing only in destiny and neglecting activity, will soon be ruined, like an unburnt clay pot left in water. Such a person is of very poor intellect.' ॥ 3-33-12 ॥
english translation
तथैव हठ बुद्धिर यः शक्तः कर्मण्य अकर्मकृत आसीत नचिरं जीवेद अनाथ इव दुर्बलः ॥ ३-३३-१३ ॥
'Similarly, one who relies solely on chance and remains inactive despite being capable of action will not endure long, as his life is marked by weakness and helplessness.' ॥ 3-33-13 ॥
english translation
अकस्माद अपि यः कश चिद अर्थं पराप्नॊति पूरुषः तं हठेनेति मन्यन्ते स हि यत्नॊ न कस्य चित ॥ ३-३३-१४ ॥
'If a person acquires wealth by mere chance, it is said to come from luck, as it was not the result of anyone's effort.' ॥ 3-33-14 ॥
english translation
यच चापि किं चित पुरुषॊ दिष्टं नाम लभत्य उत दैवेन विधिना पार्थ तद दैवम इति निश्चितम ॥ ३-३३-१५ ॥
'And, O son of Pritha, whatever good fortune a person acquires through religious rites is deemed to be the result of divine providence.' ॥ 3-33-15 ॥
