न चैवैतावता कायं मन्यन्त इति चापरे अस्ति सर्वम अदृश्यं तु दिष्टं चैव तथा हठः दृश्यते हि हठाच चैव दिष्टाच चार्थस्य संततिः ।। ३-३३-३१ ।।

sanskrit

'But others do not think this is enough. Everything unseen exists, As does fate and also effort. For the continuity of prosperity is seen To come from both effort and fate.' ।। 3-33-31 ।।

english translation

na caivaitAvatA kAyaM manyanta iti cApare asti sarvama adRzyaM tu diSTaM caiva tathA haThaH dRzyate hi haThAca caiva diSTAca cArthasya saMtatiH || 3-33-31 ||

hk transliteration

किं चिद दैवाद धठात किं चित किं चिद एव सवकर्मतः पुरुषः फलम आप्नॊति चतुर्थं नात्र कारणम कुशलाः परतिजानन्ति ये तत तव अविदुषॊ जनाः ।। ३-३३-३२ ।।

sanskrit

'It is evident that possessions may be acquired through chance or destiny, and some through effort. In the pursuit of one's goals, there is no other cause beyond these—destiny, chance, or personal exertion.' ।। 3-33-32 ।।

english translation

kiM cida daivAda dhaThAta kiM cita kiM cida eva savakarmataH puruSaH phalama Apnòti caturthaM nAtra kAraNama kuzalAH paratijAnanti ye tata tava aviduSò janAH || 3-33-32 ||

hk transliteration

तथैव धाता भूतानाम इष्टानिष्ट फलप्रदः यदि न सयान न भूतानां कृपणॊ नाम कश चन ।। ३-३३-३३ ।।

sanskrit

'If the Supreme Being were not the dispenser of both favorable and unfavorable outcomes, there would be no misery among creatures.' ।। 3-33-33 ।।

english translation

tathaiva dhAtA bhUtAnAma iSTAniSTa phalapradaH yadi na sayAna na bhUtAnAM kRpaNò nAma kaza cana || 3-33-33 ||

hk transliteration

यं यम अर्थम अभिप्रेप्सुः कुरुते कर्म पूरुषः तत तत सफलम एव सयाद यदि न सयात पुरा कृतम ।। ३-३३-३४ ।।

sanskrit

'Whatever object a person desires and pursues through action, That very thing would become fruitful, If it were not for what was done before.' ।। 3-33-34 ।।

english translation

yaM yama arthama abhiprepsuH kurute karma pUruSaH tata tata saphalama eva sayAda yadi na sayAta purA kRtama || 3-33-34 ||

hk transliteration

तरिद्वाराम अर्थ सिद्धिं तु नानुपश्यन्ति ये नराः तथैवानर्थ सिद्धिं च यथा लॊकास तथैव ते ।। ३-३३-३५ ।।

sanskrit

'Those who consider only the three factors (chance, providence, and effort) as the sole determinants of success and failure, neglecting the impact of past deeds, are as oblivious and inert as the body itself.' ।। 3-33-35 ।।

english translation

taridvArAma artha siddhiM tu nAnupazyanti ye narAH tathaivAnartha siddhiM ca yathA lòkAsa tathaiva te || 3-33-35 ||
