संप्रयॊज्य वियॊज्यायं कामकार करः परभुः करीडते भगवन भूतैर बालः करीडनकैर इव ॥ ३-३१-३६ ॥

'And the Supreme Lord, at His will, plays with His creatures, creating and destroying them as a child plays with a toy made of clay.' ॥ 3-31-36 ॥

english translation

saMprayòjya viyòjyAyaM kAmakAra karaH parabhuH karIDate bhagavana bhUtaira bAlaH karIDanakaira iva ॥ 3-31-36 ॥

न मातृपितृवद राजन धाता भूतेषु वर्तते रॊषाद इव परवृत्तॊ ऽयं यथायम इतरॊ जनः ॥ ३-३१-३७ ॥

'O King, it appears to me that God treats His creatures as a father or mother would, yet at times He seems to act with a semblance of anger, much like a harsh person.' ॥ 3-31-37 ॥

na mAtRpitRvada rAjana dhAtA bhUteSu vartate ròSAda iva paravRttò 'yaM yathAyama itarò janaH ॥ 3-31-37 ॥

आर्याञ शीलवतॊ दृष्ट्वा हरीमतॊ वृत्ति कर्शितान अनार्यान सुखिनश चैव विह्वलामीव चिन्तया ॥ ३-३१-३८ ॥

'Seeing virtuous and well-behaved individuals suffering while the sinful prosper, I am deeply troubled and distressed.' ॥ 3-31-38 ॥

AryAJa zIlavatò dRSTvA harImatò vRtti karzitAna anAryAna sukhinaza caiva vihvalAmIva cintayA ॥ 3-31-38 ॥

तवेमाम आपदं दृष्ट्वा समृद्धिं च सुयॊधन धातारं गर्हये पार्थ विषमं यॊ ऽनुपश्यति ॥ ३-३१-३९ ॥

'Seeing your distress and the prosperity of Suyodhana, I find it difficult to praise the Great Ordainer who allows such disparity to exist.' ॥ 3-31-39 ॥

tavemAma ApadaM dRSTvA samRddhiM ca suyòdhana dhAtAraM garhaye pArtha viSamaM yò 'nupazyati ॥ 3-31-39 ॥

'O Sir, what does the Great Ordainer gain by granting prosperity to Dhritarashtra's son, who violates the ordinances, is deceitful and greedy, and harms virtue and righteousness?' ॥ 3-31-40 ॥

Arya zAstrAtige karUre lubdhe dharmApacAyini dhArtarASTre zariyaM dattvA dhAtA kiM phalama aznute ॥ 3-31-40 ॥
