पश्य माया परभावॊ ऽयम ईश्वरेण यथा कृतः यॊ हन्ति भूतैर भूतानि मुनिभिर वेद दर्शिभिः ।। ३-३१-३१ ।।

sanskrit

'Observe the power of divine illusion: through this illusion, the Supreme confounds creatures, causing them to harm one another.' ।। 3-31-31 ।।

english translation

pazya mAyA parabhAvò 'yama IzvareNa yathA kRtaH yò hanti bhUtaira bhUtAni munibhira veda darzibhiH || 3-31-31 ||

अन्यथा परिदृष्टानि मुनिभिर वेद दर्शिभिः अन्यथा परिवर्तन्ते वेगा इव नभस्वतः ।। ३-३१-३२ ।।

'To the enlightened sages who know the truth, these things are seen in a different light.' ।। 3-31-32 ।।

english translation

anyathA paridRSTAni munibhira veda darzibhiH anyathA parivartante vegA iva nabhasvataH || 3-31-32 ||

अन्यथैव हि मन्यन्ते पुरुषास तानि तानि च अन्यथैव परभुस तानि करॊति विकरॊति च ।। ३-३१-३३ ।।

'Ordinary people perceive the things of the earth in one way, but it is God who creates and transforms them, using various processes for their creation and destruction.' ।। 3-31-33 ।।

english translation

anyathaiva hi manyante puruSAsa tAni tAni ca anyathaiva parabhusa tAni karòti vikaròti ca || 3-31-33 ||

यथा काष्ठेन वा काष्टम अश्मानं चाश्मना पुनः अयसा चाप्य अयश छिन्द्यान निर्विचेष्टम अचेतनम ।। ३-३१-३४ ।।

'And, O Yudhishthira, the Self-created Grandsire, the Almighty God, through His divine illusion, causes creatures to harm one another, much like using wood to break wood, stone to break stone, or iron to cut iron.' ।। 3-31-34 ।।

yathA kASThena vA kASTama azmAnaM cAzmanA punaH ayasA cApya ayaza chindyAna nirviceSTama acetanama || 3-31-34 ||

'Thus, O Yudhishthira, the Supreme Being, the Self-born Grandsire, destroys beings through other beings, all while cloaking His actions in illusion.' ।। 3-31-35 ।।
