[वै] धर्मेण ते ऽभयनुज्ञाताः पाण्डवाः सत्यविक्रमाः अज्ञातवासं वत्स्यन्तश छन्ना वर्षं तरयॊदशम उपॊपविश्य विद्वांसः सहिताः संशितव्रताः ।। ३-२९९-१ ।।

sanskrit

'Vaisampayana continued: "Commanded by the Lord of Justice to spend the thirteenth year in concealment, the high-souled Pandavas—firm in their vows and in truth their strength—sat down before those learned ascetics."' ।। 3-299-1 ।।

english translation

[vai] dharmeNa te 'bhayanujJAtAH pANDavAH satyavikramAH ajJAtavAsaM vatsyantaza channA varSaM tarayòdazama upòpavizya vidvAMsaH sahitAH saMzitavratAH || 3-299-1 ||

ये तद भक्ता वसन्ति सम वनवासे तपस्विनः तान अब्रुवन महात्मानः शिष्टाः पराज्ञलयस तदा अभ्यनुज्ञापयिष्यन्तस तं निवासं धृतव्रताः ।। ३-२९९-२ ।।

sanskrit

'Those devoted ascetics who dwelt with them during their forest exile— to them, the great-souled and disciplined Pandavas, with joined palms, spoke respectfully, seeking their permission before departing from that dwelling.' ।। 3-299-2 ।।

english translation

ye tada bhaktA vasanti sama vanavAse tapasvinaH tAna abruvana mahAtmAnaH ziSTAH parAjJalayasa tadA abhyanujJApayiSyantasa taM nivAsaM dhRtavratAH || 3-299-2 ||

विदितं भवतां सर्वं धार्तराष्ट्रैर यथा वयम छद्मना हृतराज्याश च निःस्वाश च बहुशः कृताः ।। ३-२९९-३ ।।

sanskrit

'And they said: "You are well aware that the sons of Dhritarashtra, through deceit, have deprived us of our kingdom and subjected us to many other wrongs."' ।। 3-299-3 ।।

viditaM bhavatAM sarvaM dhArtarASTraira yathA vayama chadmanA hRtarAjyAza ca niHsvAza ca bahuzaH kRtAH || 3-299-3 ||

उषिताश च वने कृच्छ्रं यत्र दवादश वत्सरान अज्ञातवास समयं शेषं वर्षं तरयॊदशम तद वत्स्यामॊ वयं छन्नास तदनुज्ञातुम अर्हथ ।। ३-२९९-४ ।।

'We have spent twelve years in the forest, enduring great hardship. Now, only the thirteenth year remains, which we must pass in concealment, unrecognized by others.' ।। 3-299-4 ।।

सुयॊधनश च दुष्टात्मा कर्णश च सह सौबलः जानन्तॊ विषमं कुर्युर अस्मास्व अत्यन्तवैरिणः युक्ताचाराश च युक्ताश च पौरस्य सवजनस्य च ।। ३-२९९-५ ।।

sanskrit

'It now behooves you to grant us leave to spend this final year in concealment. Should our spiteful enemies—Suyodhana, the wicked-minded Karna, and the son of Suvala—discover our whereabouts, they would not hesitate to inflict great harm upon both the citizens and our friends.' ।। 3-299-5 ।।

english translation

suyòdhanaza ca duSTAtmA karNaza ca saha saubalaH jAnantò viSamaM kuryura asmAsva atyantavairiNaH yuktAcArAza ca yuktAza ca paurasya savajanasya ca || 3-299-5 ||
