[यक्स] अहं बकः शैवलमत्स्यभक्षॊ; मया नीताः परेतवशं तवानुजाः तवं पञ्चमॊ भविता राजपुत्र; न चेत परश्नान पृच्छतॊ वयाकरॊषि ॥ ३-२९७-११ ॥

'Yaksha said: "I am a crane, feeding on tiny fish and water plants. It is I who have brought your younger brothers under the power of the Lord of the Dead. If you, O prince, fail to answer the questions I put to you, then you too shall become the fifth to fall."' ॥ 3-297-11 ॥

english translation

मा तात साहसं कार्षीर मम पूर्वपरिग्रहः परश्नान उक्त्वा तु कौन्तेय ततः पिब हरस्व च ॥ ३-२९७-१२ ॥

'Do not act rashly, O child! This lake is already under my possession. First answer my questions, O son of Kunti—only then may you drink and take away as much water as you need.' ॥ 3-297-12 ॥

english translation

[य] रुद्राणां वा वसूनां वा मरुतां वा परधानभाक पृच्छामि कॊ भवान देवॊ नैतच छकुनिना कृतम ॥ ३-२९७-१३ ॥

'Hearing these words, Yudhishthira said: "Art thou the foremost among the Rudras, the Vasus, or the Maruts? Tell me—what divine being art thou? Surely, this could not have been the doing of a mere bird!"' ॥ 3-297-13 ॥

english translation

हिमवान पारियात्रश च विन्ध्यॊ मलय एव च चत्वारः पर्वताः केन पातिता भुवि तेजसा ॥ ३-२९७-१४ ॥

'Who is it that has cast down the four mighty mountains—Himavat, Pāriyātra, Vindhya, and Malaya?' ॥ 3-297-14 ॥

english translation

अतीव ते महत कर्मकृतं बलवतां वर यन न देवा न गन्धर्वा नासुरा न च राक्षसाः विषहेरन महायुद्धे कृतं ते तन महाद्भुतम ॥ ३-२९७-१५ ॥

'Great indeed is the feat accomplished by thee, O foremost among the mighty! Those whom not even the gods, nor the Gandharvas, nor the Asuras, nor the Rakshasas could withstand in fierce battle— they have been struck down by thee! Truly, the deed thou hast performed is wondrous beyond measure.' ॥ 3-297-15 ॥
