[कुन्ती] बराह्मणं यन्त्रिता राजन उपस्थास्यामि पूजया यथाप्रतिज्ञं राजेन्द्र न च मिथ्या बरवीम्य अहम ।। ३-२८८-१ ।।

sanskrit

'Kunti said, 'In accordance with your promise, O king, I shall serve that Brahmin with single-minded devotion. O sovereign lord, I speak no falsehood in this matter.'' ।। 3-288-1 ।।

english translation

[kuntI] barAhmaNaM yantritA rAjana upasthAsyAmi pUjayA yathApratijJaM rAjendra na ca mithyA baravImya ahama || 3-288-1 ||

एष चैव सवभावॊ मे पूजयेयं दविजान इति तव चैव परियं कार्यं शरेयॊ चैतत परं मम ।। ३-२८८-२ ।।

sanskrit

'It is my nature to revere Brahmins. Since doing so would be pleasing to you in this instance, such conduct would also greatly benefit my own welfare.' ।। 3-288-2 ।।

english translation

eSa caiva savabhAvò me pUjayeyaM davijAna iti tava caiva pariyaM kAryaM zareyò caitata paraM mama || 3-288-2 ||

यद्य एवैष्यति सायाह्ने यदि परातर अथॊ निशि यद्य अर्धरात्रे भगवान न मे कॊपं करिष्यति ।। ३-२८८-३ ।।

sanskrit

'Whether that worshipful one comes in the evening, in the morning, at night, or even at midnight — he shall have no cause for anger against me.' ।। 3-288-3 ।।

english translation

yadya evaiSyati sAyAhne yadi parAtara athò nizi yadya ardharAtre bhagavAna na me kòpaM kariSyati || 3-288-3 ||

लाभॊ ममैष राजेन्द्र यद वै पूजयती दविजान आदेशे तव तिष्ठन्ती हितं कुर्यां नरॊत्तम ।। ३-२८८-४ ।।

sanskrit

'O greatest of kings, honoring the twice-born and following your every command — this, O noble one, I consider my highest gain.' ।। 3-288-4 ।।

english translation

lAbhò mamaiSa rAjendra yada vai pUjayatI davijAna Adeze tava tiSThantI hitaM kuryAM naròttama || 3-288-4 ||

विस्रब्धॊ भव राजेन्द्र न वयलीकं दविजॊत्तमः वसन पराप्स्यति ते गेहे सत्यम एतद बरवीमि ते ।। ३-२८८-५ ।।

sanskrit

'Therefore, O foremost of monarchs, place thy trust in me! That best of Brahmanas shall never have reason for discontent while he dwells in thy house — this I speak in truth.' ।। 3-288-5 ।।

english translation

visrabdhò bhava rAjendra na vayalIkaM davijòttamaH vasana parApsyati te gehe satyama etada baravImi te || 3-288-5 ||
