चतुर्वर्ष शतायुर मे भर्ता लब्धश च सत्यवान भर्तुर हि जीवितार्थं तु मया चीर्णं सथिरं वरतम ।। ३-२८२-४१ ।।

sanskrit

'My husband, Satyavan, was granted a life span of four hundred years. It was for the sake of my husband's life that I observed that vow.' ।। 3-282-41 ।।

english translation

caturvarSa zatAyura me bhartA labdhaza ca satyavAna bhartura hi jIvitArthaM tu mayA cIrNaM sathiraM varatama || 3-282-41 ||

एतत सत्यं मयाख्यातं कारणं विस्तरेण वः यथावृत्तं सुखॊदर्कम इदं दुःखं महन मम ।। ३-२८२-४२ ।।

sanskrit

'Thus have I narrated to you in detail the cause by which this mighty misfortune of mine was afterward transformed into happiness.' ।। 3-282-42 ।।

english translation

etata satyaM mayAkhyAtaM kAraNaM vistareNa vaH yathAvRttaM sukhòdarkama idaM duHkhaM mahana mama || 3-282-42 ||

[रसयह] निमज्जमानं वयसनैर अभिद्रुतं; कुलं नरेन्द्रस्य तमॊ मये हरदे तवया सुशीले धृतधर्मपुण्यया; समुद्धृतं साध्वि पुनः कुलीनया ।। ३-२८२-४३ ।।

sanskrit

'The Rishis said, 'O virtuous lady of noble character, devoted to your vows and born of an illustrious lineage, you have rescued the dynasty of this greatest of kings—a royal line that was overwhelmed by calamities and sinking into an ocean of darkness.'' ।। 3-282-43 ।।

english translation

[rasayaha] nimajjamAnaM vayasanaira abhidrutaM; kulaM narendrasya tamò maye harade tavayA suzIle dhRtadharmapuNyayA; samuddhRtaM sAdhvi punaH kulInayA || 3-282-43 ||

[मार्क] तथा परशस्य हय अभिपूज्य चैव ते; वरस्त्रियं ताम ऋषयः समागताः नरेन्द्रम आमन्द्र्य सपुत्रम अञ्जसा; शिवेन जग्मुर मुदिताः सवम आलयम ।। ३-२८२-४४ ।।

sanskrit

'Markandeya continued, 'Having praised and honored that most excellent of women, the assembled Rishis then took their leave of the foremost of kings and his son. After offering their respectful salutations, they departed swiftly and joyfully to their respective abodes, their hearts filled with peace and contentment.'' ।। 3-282-44 ।।

[mArka] tathA parazasya haya abhipUjya caiva te; varastriyaM tAma RSayaH samAgatAH narendrama Amandrya saputrama aJjasA; zivena jagmura muditAH savama Alayama || 3-282-44 ||
