[सावित्री] एवम एतद यथा वेत्थ संकल्पॊ नान्यथा हि वः न च किं चिद रहस्यं मे शरूयतां तथ्यम अत्र यत ॥ ३-२८२-३६ ॥
'At these words of Gautama, Savitri said, "It is as you surmise. Your desire shall surely be fulfilled. I have no secret to withhold. Hear then the truth!"' ॥ 3-282-36 ॥
english translation
मृत्युर मे भर्तुर आख्यातॊ नारदेन महात्मना स चाद्य दिवसः पराप्तस ततॊ नैनं जहाम्य अहम ॥ ३-२८२-३७ ॥
'The noble sage Narada had foretold my husband’s death. Today was the appointed time, yet I could not bear to be parted from his company.' ॥ 3-282-37 ॥
english translation
सुप्तं चैनं यमः साक्षाद उपागच्छत सकिंकरः स एनम अनयद बद्ध्वा दिशं पितृनिषेविताम ॥ ३-२८२-३८ ॥
'And after he had fallen asleep, Yama, accompanied by his messengers, appeared before him, bound him, and began to carry him away toward the realm of the Pitris.' ॥ 3-282-38 ॥
english translation
अस्तौषं तम अहं देवं सत्येन वचसा विभुम पञ्च वै तेन मे दत्ता वराः शृणुत तान मम ॥ ३-२८२-३९ ॥
'Thereupon, I praised that august god with truthful words, and he granted me five boons—listen now, and I shall tell you what they were!' ॥ 3-282-39 ॥
english translation
चक्षुर ई च सवराज्यं च दवौ वरौ शवशुरस्य मे लब्धं पितुः पुत्रशतं पुत्राणाम आत्मनः शतम ॥ ३-२८२-४० ॥
'For my father-in-law, I obtained these two boons: the restoration of his sight and the return of his kingdom. My father also was granted a hundred sons, and I myself have received a hundred sons.' ॥ 3-282-40 ॥
