[अष्वपति] गुणैर उपेतं सर्वैस तं भगवन परब्रवीषि मे दॊषान अप्य अस्य मे बरूहि यदि सन्तीह के चन ॥ ३-२७८-२१ ॥
'Hearing this, Aswapati said, "O revered sage, thou hast described him as adorned with every virtue. Yet if he bears any flaw, I pray, reveal it now — if indeed there is any."' ॥ 3-278-21 ॥
english translation
[नारद] एकॊ दॊषॊ ऽसय नान्यॊ ऽसति सॊ ऽदय परभृति सत्यवान संवत्सरेण कषीणायुर देहन्यासं करिष्यति ॥ ३-२७८-२२ ॥
'Narada then said, "He has one fault alone — yet it is one that darkens all his virtues. No effort, however great, can alter it. From this very day, within a single year, Satyavān, though noble and pure, shall be cut down by fate and surrender his body."' ॥ 3-278-22 ॥
english translation
[राजा] एहि सावित्रि गच्छ तवम अन्यं वरय शॊभने तस्य दॊषॊ महान एकॊ गुणान आक्रम्य तिष्ठति ॥ ३-२७८-२३ ॥
'Hearing these words of the sage, the king said: "Come, O Savitri, go forth and choose another as thy husband, O fair maiden. For this one great flaw in him overshadows all his virtues."' ॥ 3-278-23 ॥
english translation
यथा मे भगवान आह नारदॊ देवसत्कृतः संवत्सरेण सॊ ऽलपायुर देहन्यासं करिष्यति ॥ ३-२७८-२४ ॥
'As declared by the revered Narada, who is honoured even among the gods — Satyavān, whose span of life is short, must lay down his body within a year.' ॥ 3-278-24 ॥
english translation
[सावित्री] सकृद अंशॊ निपतति सकृत कन्या परदीयते सकृद आह ददानीति तरीण्य एतानि सकृत सकृत ॥ ३-२७८-२५ ॥
'At these words of her father, Savitri replied: "Death strikes but once; a daughter is given but once; and the words ‘I give’ are spoken but once."' ॥ 3-278-25 ॥
