स रामं सह सुग्रीवॊ माल्यवत पृष्ठम आस्थितम अभिगम्यॊदयं तस्य कार्यस्य परत्यवेदयत ॥ ३-२६६-२१ ॥
'And accompanied by Sugrīva, he returned to Rāma on the slopes of Mālyavān. Approaching him, Lakṣmaṇa informed him of the progress already made regarding his mission.' ॥ 3-266-21 ॥
english translation
इत्य एवं वानरेन्द्रास ते समाजग्मुः सहस्रशः दिशस तिस्रॊ विचित्याथ न तु ये दक्षिणां गताः ॥ ३-२६६-२२ ॥
'And soon, thousands of monkey chiefs began to return after carefully searching the three quarters of the earth— the North, the East, and the West. But those who had gone towards the South did not return.' ॥ 3-266-22 ॥
english translation
आचख्युस ते तु रामाय महीं सागरमेखलाम विचितां न तु वैदेह्या दर्शनं रावणस्य वा ॥ ३-२६६-२३ ॥
'And those who returned reported to Rāma, saying that, although they had searched the entire earth, girdled by the seas, they could not find either the princess of Videha or Rāvaṇa.' ॥ 3-266-23 ॥

गतास तु दक्षिणाम आशां ये वै वानरपुंगवाः आशावांस तेषु काकुत्स्थः परानान आर्तॊ ऽपय अधारयत ॥ ३-२६६-२४ ॥
'Yet, the descendant of Kakutstha's race, though afflicted in heart, continued to live, placing his hopes of hearing Sītā's tidings on the great monkeys who had gone towards the South.' ॥ 3-266-24 ॥

दविमासॊपरमे काले वयतीते पलवगास ततः सुग्रीवम अभिगम्येदं तवरिता वाक्यम अब्रुवन ॥ ३-२६६-२५ ॥
'After the lapse of two months, several monkeys, seeking Sugrīva with haste, addressed him, saying:' ॥ 3-266-25 ॥
