तारां परुषम उक्त्वा स निर्जगाम गुहा मुखात सथितं माल्यवतॊ ऽभयाशे सुग्रीवं सॊ ऽभयभाषत ॥ ३-२६४-२६ ॥
'Speaking harshly to Tārā, he emerged from his cave and, approaching Sugrīva, who stood by the slopes of Mālyavat, addressed him thus.' ॥ 3-264-26 ॥
english translation
असकृत तवं मया मूढ निर्जितॊ जीवितप्रियः मुक्तॊ जञातिर इति जञात्वा का तवरा मरणे पुनः ॥ ३-२६४-२७ ॥
'Time and again have I vanquished thee, yet, fond of life, thou wert spared only for the sake of our kinship. What now drives thee so soon to court death?' ॥ 3-264-27 ॥
english translation
इत्य उक्तः पराह सुग्रीवॊ भरातरं हेतुमद वचः पराप्तकालम अमित्रघ्नॊ रामं संबॊधयन्न इव ॥ ३-२६४-२८ ॥
'Thus spoken to by Vāli, Sugrīva, the slayer of foes, as if calling upon Rāma to bear witness, replied to his brother with words of grave import.' ॥ 3-264-28 ॥

हृतदारस्य मे राजन हृतराज्यस्य च तवया किं नु जीवितसामर्थ्यम इति विद्धि समागतम ॥ ३-२६४-२९ ॥
'O king, bereft of my wife and my kingdom by thy hand, what need have I for life? Know that for this very reason have I come!' ॥ 3-264-29 ॥
english translation
एवम उक्त्वा बहुविधं ततस तौ संनिपेततुः समरे वालिसुग्रीवौ शालतालशिलायुधौ ॥ ३-२६४-३० ॥
'Exchanging such words and many more, Vāli and Sugrīva charged at each other, fighting fiercely with śāla and tāla trees, hurling mighty stones in their wrath.' ॥ 3-264-30 ॥
