तस्य तत सर्वम आचख्यौ भगिनी रामविक्रमम सवरदूषण संयुक्तं राक्षसानां पराभवम ॥ ३-२६१-५१ ॥
'His sister then recounted the prowess of Rama and the defeat of the Rakshasas, with Khara and Dushana at their head.' ॥ 3-261-51 ॥

स निश्चित्य ततः कृत्यं सवसारम उपसान्त्व्य च ऊर्ध्वम आचक्रमे राजा विधाय नगरे विधिम ॥ ३-२६१-५२ ॥
'Informed of the slaughter of his relatives, Ravana, driven by Fate, remembered Maricha as the one who could slay Rama. Resolving on his course of action, and having made arrangements for the governance of his kingdom, he consoled his sister and set out on an aerial journey.' ॥ 3-261-52 ॥

तरिकूटं समतिक्रम्य कालपर्वतम एव च ददर्श मकरावासं गम्भीरॊदं महॊदधिम ॥ ३-२६१-५३ ॥
'And crossing the Trikuta and Kala mountains, he beheld the vast expanse of deep waters—the abode of the Makaras.' ॥ 3-261-53 ॥

तम अतीत्याथ गॊकर्णम अभ्यगच्छद दशाननः दयितं सथानम अव्यग्रं शूलपाणेर महात्मनः ॥ ३-२६१-५४ ॥
'Then, crossing the ocean, the ten-headed Ravana reached Gokarna—the beloved retreat of the illustrious god wielding the trident.' ॥ 3-261-54 ॥

तत्राभ्यगच्छन मारीचं पूर्वामात्यं दशाननः पुरा राम भयाद एव तापस्यं समुपाश्रितम ॥ ३-२६१-५५ ॥
'There, Ravana encountered his old friend Maricha, who, fearing Rama, had taken up an ascetic life.' ॥ 3-261-55 ॥
