विरॊषं भीमसेनं तु वारयाम आस फल्गुनः दुःशलायाः कृते राजा यत तद आहेति कौरव ॥ ३-२५६-६ ॥
'Then Phalguna restrained the furious Bhimasena, reminding him of Yudhishthira's words about their sister, Dussala, and dissuading him from further punishment.' ॥ 3-256-6 ॥
english translation
viròSaM bhImasenaM tu vArayAma Asa phalgunaH duHzalAyAH kRte rAjA yata tada Aheti kaurava ॥ 3-256-6 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscript[भीमसेन] नायं पापसमाचारॊ मत्तॊ जीवितुम अर्हति दरौपद्यास तद अनर्हायाः परिक्लेष्टा नराधमः ॥ ३-२५६-७ ॥
'But Bhima replied, 'This wicked wretch has inflicted a grievous wrong upon Krishna, who should never have suffered such an indignity. He deserves death at my hands!' ॥ 3-256-7 ॥
english translation
[bhImasena] nAyaM pApasamAcArò mattò jIvituma arhati daraupadyAsa tada anarhAyAH parikleSTA narAdhamaH ॥ 3-256-7 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकिं नु शक्यं मया कर्तुं यद राजा सततं घृणी तवं च बालिशया बुद्ध्या सदैवास्मान परबाधसे ॥ ३-२५६-८ ॥
'Yet what can I do? The king is ever merciful, and you too constantly hinder me, bound by a childish sense of virtue!' ॥ 3-256-8 ॥

kiM nu zakyaM mayA kartuM yada rAjA satataM ghRNI tavaM ca bAlizayA buddhyA sadaivAsmAna parabAdhase ॥ 3-256-8 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएवं कुत्वा सटास तस्य पञ्च चक्रे वृकॊदरः अर्धचन्द्रेण बाणेन किं चिद अब्रुवतस तदा ॥ ३-२५६-९ ॥
'Having said these words, Vrikodara took his crescent-shaped arrow and shaved the prince’s head, leaving five tufts of hair. Jayadratha, humiliated, remained silent throughout.' ॥ 3-256-9 ॥

evaM kutvA saTAsa tasya paJca cakre vRkòdaraH ardhacandreNa bANena kiM cida abruvatasa tadA ॥ 3-256-9 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविकल्पयित्वा राजानं ततः पराह वृकॊदरः जीवितुं चेच्छसे मूढ हेतुं मे गदतः शृणु ॥ ३-२५६-१० ॥
'Then Vrikodara addressed his foe, saying, 'If you wish to live, listen to me, O fool! I shall tell you the only way to save yourself.' ॥ 3-256-10 ॥

vikalpayitvA rAjAnaM tataH parAha vRkòdaraH jIvituM cecchase mUDha hetuM me gadataH zRNu ॥ 3-256-10 ॥
